Akari Light Sculptures, created by Isamu Noguchi, offer a modern take on traditional Japanese paper lanterns. Designed in 1951 while Noguchi was in Gifu, Japan, the collection was inspired by the lanterns used by local fishermen on the Nagara River. Each piece is handcrafted using bamboo ribbing and translucent washi paper, casting a soft, ambient glow reminiscent of sunlight passing through shōji screens. With over a hundred variations in table, floor, and pendant styles, Akari lights embody Noguchi’s vision: "A home begins with a room, a tatami, and Akari."
