Ceramic Dish by Per and Annelise Linnemann-Schmidt

RM559.00 MYR

This vintage low, wide ceramic dish from Palshus offers a timeless example of mid‑Century Scandinavian stoneware. Its chamotte clay body — rich, textured, and robust — is coated in a thick glaze that yields deep, earthy tones. The glaze may shift in color intensity and texture across the surface, giving each bowl a unique, organic character. The form is simple and utilitarian, ideal for serving, display, or as a decorative bowl — and its weight and robust build reflect the care and craftsmanship behind each piece.

Whether used at the table or as an accent object at home, this bowl marries understated design with natural warmth, embodying the spirit of functional art.

About the Artist

Per Linnemann‑Schmidt (born 1912 in Copenhagen) and his wife Annelise founded Palshus Stentøj in the late 1940s. The name “Palshus” comes from their initials plus the Danish word “hus” (house), symbolizing their collaborative workshop and studio‑home. Over the following decades, they produced ceramic wares — tableware, bowls, vases, lamps — often in a signature range of earthy glazes and textured clay bodies.

Palshus became known for its blend of Scandinavian modern design and a handmade sensibility: using robust chamotte clay, simple shapes, and strong glazes to produce pieces that balance practicality with aesthetic subtlety. The palette favored natural, muted tones — blues, greens, browns, beige — and the workshop experimented with glaze techniques such as the distinctive matte/glazed finishes sometimes called “hare‑fur” (in other contexts). The pieces often bear the “Palshus” mark and initials (e.g. “PLS”) under the base.

Though the workshop closed in the early 1970s after Annelise’s death, Palshus’s ceramics remain valued as iconic examples of mid‑century Danish design — simple, functional, and deeply expressive of clay, glaze, and craftsmanship.
